After receiving early praise from Dazed, The Fader, The Quietus, and a Valentine’s mix on BBC Radio 3, Kenyan singer, songwriter, and producer Lord Spikeheart releases his debut video “Rem Fodder”, in collaboration with James Ginzburg of Emptyset, Koenraad Ecker, and director/photographer Ronald Dick, ahead of Spikeheart’s highly anticipated and intense solo debut album.
Set for release on April 2024, Friday 19th, ‘The Adept’ album is Lord Spikeheart’s tribute to the fight against oppression, a theme inspired by his great-grandmother’s role in the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya. This album, which masterfully blends techno and metal with powerful lyrics in multiple languages, delivers a sound as intense as its message. Its release also marks the launch of HAEKALU Records, the first record label in Africa dedicated exclusively to the darkest and heaviest music genres.
Lord Spikeheart has been a formidable force in the underground scene for over a decade, known for his genre-defying music and performances at major festivals and collaborations that have left a mark on the industry: Primavera Sound, Roadburn Festival, Roskilde, Sonar, Le Guess Who, and collaborations with Catnapp, the British band Fat Dog (to be released via Domino Records), and soundtracks for iconic video games like Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
Ronald Dick, with a background steeped in heavy metal and a distinctive photographic style, has worked with top brands and been featured in renowned publications including Numéro, W, New York Times, Dazed & Confused, Interview, L’Officiel, crafting a unique visual narrative that complements Spikeheart’s musical journey.
Lord Spikeheart’s debut is backed by a lineup of notable producers and artists across the bass and shred scenes, including Brodinski, Backxwash, Fatboi Sharif, Safety Trance, Rully Shabara (Senyawa), and many more, alongside contributions from iconic figures like Botswana’s Vulture Thrust from the iconic death metal band Overthurst, DJ Die Soon, and DJ Scotch Rolex — collaborations that span the globe.
Lord Spikeheart appeals to fans of Duma, Backxwash, Godflesh, Denzel Curry, Blackhaine, JPEG Mafia, Rage Against the Machine, and Suicide Silence.
