Hope Muyela, known as Kali Mija (stage name, pronounced as “Carli Mi-Jar”) is a dual citizen between the Republic of Botswana and the Kenyan Republic born 11 Nov 1998. She started her music career in 2017 and later in the vear 2018 started exploring her talent further. Within her music career, she has collaborated with a number of producers and artists from different genres being; Afro house, Deep House, Electronic Dance Music, Dance, Funk. Indie to mention a few.
Kali Mija’s singing is exciting and breathtaking. She is noted for her mesmerizing and captivating vocal improvisations and vocal lvrics to instrumental solos. Kali Mija is an artist who uses her voice as her instrument, displaying precision, agility/flexibility, mixed with heartfelt emotion.

Who inspired you to become a DJ?
Montell 2099 and Louis the Child played a huge role in inspiring me to step into DJing. Their energy, creativity, and ability to control a crowd through sound really made an impact on me.
What kind of music did you listen to as a teenager?
I mainly listened to future bass and dubstep back then. That era was full of high-energy, experimental sounds, and I loved it.
And now?
These days, I’m into indie rock, alternative rock, and indie music in general. There’s something about the way it sounds—raw, emotive, and real—that really resonates with me.

Which platform do you use to listen to music?
I used to be all about YouTube, but I’ve outgrown it. Now, I use both Apple Music and Spotify.
Africa is becoming a major force in the electronic music scene. Why do you think that is?
Africa has a unique approach to beat-making, singing, and sound design. It’s catching up to the rest of the world now, but in reality, it’s always been ahead in terms of soul and rhythm. My favorite producers are Flume, Louis the Child, and Big Wild. As for DJs, I’d say Ta-ku, Kaytranada, and DJ Robotic.
Your favorite clubs and festivals?
I love all the clubs I’ve been booked at or had the pleasure to perform at. As for festivals, I’ve never actually been to one.
The most important record in your collection?
A track I produced called “Kimchi”. It holds a special place for me.
Your all-time favorite track?
I have a few, but if I had to narrow it down, “THATS TOO SLOW” (Whetan).

I’m currently working on two EPs. Release dates to be announced.

What’s your lifelong dream?
DJing or performing for a huge crowd. That’s the ultimate goal.
